Iron Infusions

We are pleased to announce Dr Timothy Ma is able to provide Ferinject Iron Infusions.

(You must see him for an appointment to discuss if this treatment option is suitable for you prior to booking for an infusion).

If he determines you may benefit from this treatment, you will be given a script to get the Ferinject from a pharmacy. The cost varies between pharmacies, but roughly it is around $40.

The cost to have the infusion at Wantirna Medical Clinic is $180.10 (you will receive a Medicare rebate of $80.10) leaving a total of $100 out-of-pocket cost.

Iron infusion is a procedure in which iron is delivered to your body intravenously, meaning into a vein through a needle. This method of delivering medication or supplementation is also known as an intravenous (IV) infusion. It may be useful:

  • If one’s ferritin is extremely low (<10)
  • If oral iron supplements are not tolerated
  • When someone has a malabsorption syndrome
